Description
Rare Antique English Period Geo. III Ironstone “Long Bridge Willow” Platter
Circa 1810-1820
Attributed to Leeds Pottery
(see Pg. 79 in Neale’s “British Transfer Printed Pottery Patterns”)
Please note the impressed “16” indicating the earlier earthenware as well as the “orange peel” like glazing. The tiny edge chip is under the glaze so not considered a flaw. Rare Butterfly/Moth border. Earliest example of the “Willow” pattern where the English copied the Chinese “Canton” motif, but slightly more anglicized– an uncommon pattern.
